14KY Carter Gough & Company Cufflinks with mother of pearl
14 karat yellow gold Carter, Gough & Company cufflinks with mother of pearl, white enamel, and seed pearls. Cufflinks have fixed backs with bean shaped ends. Circa 1910. Top of Cufflinks are 3/4" long x 1/2" wide and weigh 6.7 grams.
Carter, Gough & Company was a Newark, NJ manufacturer of fine gold and platinum jewelry from 1841-1920. Founded by Aaron Carter it had a variety of names as partners changed over time, by 1915 it was Carter, Gough and Co. At one point in was one of the largest jewelry companies in the world, was also the first jewelry manufacturer to use a steam engine, in the 1850's. Aaron Carter died in 1902 and the firm was continued by his son, William Tuttle Carter.
